December Daily - Day 29

on Friday, December 30, 2011

As we are soon to be ringing in the new year... Is the New Year just the platform some people need to be pushed into a direction to better their life? I am starting to see people talk about their "new year resolutions" and "operation 2012". Common items are: eat better, make exercise a priority, attend church more regularly, make better decisions, learn something new, and make new friends. All of which are wonderful things to strive for. I am one of those realists that doesn't necessarily want to make a "new year resolution" because it seems like when a goal is labeled that way it is bound for failure. Rather I like to use the changing of the calendar to take a few minutes to reflect on the lows and highs of the previous year. What were the "live and learn" moments? Did I actually learn from them? What did I not get around to this year that I would really like to next year? And so on. I take it more as a time to be thankful for what this past year has been to me and become determined to continue to add to the list in the new year.

How do you handle the new year? Do you have a special tradition or way of mentally approaching it? I'm curious to see and hear what others' take on the whole thing is.

My last December Daily will be a written reflection on the year 2011, and what a year it has been. I have a feeling more self challenges such as this daily will pop up in the coming year(s) :)
